As a young professional living alone in Delhi, I often rely on Delhi transport to reach work. Before the brutal Delhi gangrape, situation in Delhi was quite miserable. Getting those lewd stares by men was an every day sighting for us girls. Every time I, along with friends used to enter the metro station, such ugly stares by men used to follow us. But in the past few days, I have noticed a small but significant change in Delhi. Since the Delhi gangrape gained so much hype and momentum, now Delhi men are becoming more cautious and careful about their behaviour.

To quote an instance, my friend boarded an auto at 8 at night, and the autowallah instantly agreed to drop her to her destination without any arguments. Not only that, but he also assured her that she will be safe in his auto. Also, today while coming to work, I boarded the metro and believe me, those lewd stares had reduced. In fact, when I was standing in line, a man was trying to act smart and tried to brush his body against mine, but a young boy made sure I had enough space to stand as he stood in front of me. Is it that Delhi men feel this new sense of responsibility towards girls or do they feel scared and threatened after seeing the repercussions of the Delhi Gangrape?

Well, what ever the case maybe, I feel the media should not let go of this issue too soon. There should be more pressure that must be built-up on the government and the citizens to act more responsibly. I hope my Delhi changes for the better.
