Love them, hate them but you just can’t ignore them. This saying goes best for the sizzling item girls of Bollywood. They prance and gyrate sensually to songs in scenes that usually don’t have anything to do with the story. Some have a career boost after their “jhatkas and patkas”. But there are some who love to call themselves a part of the official Item girl’s gang. During yester years being item girls, was totally the realm of vamps. Like Helen, Bindu, Padma Khanna and Aruna Irani. But gradually the leading ladies also entered the arena. Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi topped the charts then. From then on, item girls became indispensable and one of the sure short way to publicity. We say Shilpa Shetty, Raveena Tandona Urmila and many who did these songs for their movies. Now, even super stars love doing item numbers and even charge a bomb for doing so. Superstars like Lara Dutta, Shipa Shetty, Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai all have done item numbers to rejuvenate their flagging careers.

Anyway, it's just cheap publicity. They require item songs more for the publicity than more »
