Shahrukh Khan is the arguably the biggest superstar in Bollywood. He has earned his nickname ‘King of Romance’ and the ‘Badshah of Bollywood’ having done close to 75 films and won 8 Filmfare awards for Best Actor, a number shared by veteran actor Dilip Kumar. Shahrukh Khan’s rise to fame from TV actor to Bollywood superstar has no parallel. Having had no film background, SRK as he is popularly known as, is one of the few actors in Bollywood to have enjoyed the kind of stardom usually reserved for film families like the Kapoors and the Bachchans. Ironically enough, Shahrukh’s first films like Darr, Anjaam and Baazigar had him playing negative characters. It is only after the commercial success of films like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai that Khan became the undisputed romantic hero of Bollywood. SRK is the co-founder of Dreamz Unlimited, a production company and occupies the position of CEO and co-chairman of the motion picture production and distribution company Red Chillies Entertainment and the animation studio Red Chillies VFX. He is also co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders. Newsweek magazine declared him one of the 50 most powerful people in the world. In 2005, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri for his contributions towards Indian cinema.
