BJP MLA, calls for ban on skirts in school to save girls from the 'mens lustful gazes' and contribute to deterring rapes! Someone please tell this 'Talibans of India' that all women who got raped, molested earlier were not wearing skirts.

Dictates on women should do, wear, or say will not the situation of this country, men cause the problems so the dictates should be on them instead thrusting them on women. Shame on our politicians!
Srijanee Adhikari
why don't men wear scarves around their heads so their eyes are covered so nicely that they can't see anything except what on the ground right in front of them?

wearing short skirts isn't bravery. its freedom. and anybody suppressing human rights isn't a "person".

So you are suggesting the girls to cater to the mentality of the men before deciding their own dresses?

It clearly shows MLAs attitude towards women. Today's men need educating and not blame women for what they wear, how they walk, whom they socialise, whom they befriend. Do not make rules for women, make for men. Women are not for men’s sexual pleasure, women need to be treated with respect and dignity, equal to men, not to be to be exploited. Be virtuous if men want women to be virtuous. These MLAs must come out of the Stone Age era which is rather unfortunate for the women of the country

ANSWER THIS Two men walk separately through a dark alley at different late nights. One is wearing an expensive watch, clothes, gold chains, and clearly carrying lot of cash. The other one walks through it in modest clothes, nothing that will attract too much attention (except his personality, perhaps). Who is more likely to get robbed or tempting robbers more? Yes, it’s the robber’s fault, but is that all? I think not. Now answer the "La-hore clothes" question. Yuck, do we smell hypocrisy here?

Mr. Nandy, please specify. Is it watch, gold chain, expensive cloths or cash? What is the staff you are comparing to the women. So women are just another staff or assets you carry and not a human being?

There are many nudist beaches around the world where men and women are going around without disturbing the peace of other person. In India there are many sweet shop displaying the sweets well in the open. Do you go and pick up the sweet and start eating. The fault is in the man who is unable to control his lust and libido. Please do not blame the women for what they wear; it is the men who have lost self-control.

That's not the point. The question is simply that of likelihood. It is also called "probability". Every action or inaction does influence the probability of the occurrence of certain events. On another note, legalize nudism and prostitution (yes, I know that Bollywood is "legal", but that's not what I mean) in India. It will have other social effects, but sex crime rate will come down.

that "likelihood" will never change unless people like you do. when a girl gets raped and killed for wearing a short skirt, u guys will sit around and say, "yeh toh hona hi tha.." when real humans will take steps against it.

Allow me to add that the two men are walking in Singapore - the robber remains to be blamed, will get his punishment and the two men can continue walking another night with or without their goodies. The system has to cure not the two men - no hypocrisies involved, is there? :)

Of course, this doesn't mean "banning" anything is the answer. The point is that everyone needs to take the responsibility of protecting one's own "assets".

Yes everyone needs to take responsibilities, but more is to be taken by men who have been suppressing the women for ages.

Point understood, but a civilized society provides the correct doses of deterrents if someone tries to break in and rob your "assets". It allows you to possess the assets and flaunt it if you so wish without losing it to criminals. Possessing assets is not the crime - snatching it, is. A criminal only gets bolder if his excuses find takers. Crime has no justifications - the criminal has to mend his ways not the victims. :)
