Item songs responsible for rapes?

Some of the item songs that our musicians compose are preposterous and extremely derogatory to women. Now, in the wake of the Delhi Gangrape, Bollywood faces the firing squad over its responsibility towards the community at large.

Songs like Chikni Chameli and Halkat Jawani must be banned due to its suggestive lyrics and pelvic thrusts.

Do you think the Bollywood industry should stand up and unite against this cause and not objectify women in hideous manner?

The actors performing on these songs do it for money, so they don't give a damn & will continue to do the same. It's upto the audience to grow up &bcom mature enough 2 understand that Movies r nothin' but story-telling &not to be taken seriously,be it any romantic, action scene or item song.

rape is classified as criminal acts and the raising and education of a child is classified as maternal, child grows in the field if it's inappropriate and negative examples, I do not have to accuse Indian folk music, are very beautiful and worth listening

What about ethics, morals, parent-teaching and self-control? Why we directly point out towards other factor? Hollywood’s music videos are much more obnoxious and full of obscenity but there is a very less such act reported. So why we are accusing Bollywood musics for it? We are adapting their culture now, becoming like them but some parent’s are weak enough to teach their children about self control since they also like them, drunker.

I have written my blog post with title "Should such songs be allowed in Hindi films?" which will throw some light on the fact that such item songs can cause problems in society.

THANKS Lishi, I agree with you that upbringing has a major role in bringing up a child, but unfortunately this upbringing is coming to the child directly from TV and not from papa and grand-pa, and you know, now-a-days Munni, Sheela, Jalebi and Chameli are ruling over this tiny silver-screen, they are upbringing children all over the Nation.

Today’s child thinks that parents are outdated, the strong suggestions coming through bright screen of TV is the only ultimate truth. TV, a strong tool of media today, has hypnotizing impact on tender minds of children. We certainly need to up-bring and control this strong tool of modern-age, before it worsens the situation. I am glad you gave me a beautiful nickname; I would love to be called that way – Yogesh.

Very True. There is song from Rowdy Rathore that goes something like this "Aa re pritam pyaare Bandook mein na toh goli mere Aa re pritam pyaare Sab aag toh mere choli mein re Zara hukka utha zara chillam jala Pallu ke neeche chupa ke rakha hai Utha doon toh hangama ho ho ho Pallu ke neeche daba ke rakha hai Utha doon toh hangama ho" Such songs corrupt young male minds.

Lishi, you don’t understand a thing about young-male’s psyche. When Munni, Jalebi or Chameli throw their pelvic area in the air, again and again, and wink at the audience, the young male is completely shaken from inside and this is no less than a rape on him. But unfortunately, such constant female attacks are NOT very visible, nor considered as illegal by law, whereas the advances of a young male are visible and illegal. No matter how many clergy-men teach, no matter how many strict laws are made, no matter how much furious the demonstrations are, rapes in this country are NOT going to stop - unless such female attacks are curbed. I am much concerned about the root-cause of the problem and not what is apparent on the surface.
