Does Muslim law encourage child marriage?

As per Muslim law it is acceptable for a girl to marry after she attains puberty. So which basically means that she can marry when she is 13! Do you think such old fashioned laws should be done away with?

Legal age to marry in Texas, US = 14 years
Legal age to marry in Unites States = varies from 15 to 18 depending on the state they live in
Blame them for child marriage..have the guts??? why just muslims??

when at 13-14 age it is allowed to have bf-gf then no one question this.Illegal relationship is ok,for Indian Law & Western law .
Muslim law don't fix any fixed age for marriage,it is recomended based on chold health,menatl and sexual state so a proper medical advise is suggested before marriage.Aslo the daughter or son has right to choose no one can force them.
It's very sad that media and politicians promoting hatred towards Islam and Islamic culture.

Problem is of lack of education. Laws and putting them into practice are two separate things. Making it an issue is a mindset of intolerance. Abortion, contraception, Sati melas, child marriages, nudity of babas, 4 wives, jihad, gay relationships - religious practices may or may not respect the laws!
