It’s been two years since I have been working in this IT company, but my boss is really bad. He always tries to put in down in front of others, even when it’s not my mistake. He scolds me for petty things and hasn’t appreciated my work till now.

I really don’t understand why is he behaving like this with me. What should I do?

Politely confront your boss and tell him straight that you accept your genuine mistakes but insulting publicly is outrageous, intolerable and unacceptable...

Few questions : 1. Is he does the same to everyone else, means his other sub-ordinates? 2. Is he owner/proprietor of the firm or also an employee ? 3. Has he made a major favor to you, or made a special contribution for you to get hired in this company etc. If you are being singled out then you need to see the reasons behind it and correct is. One thing is sure that if he insults you in public then definitely he thinks you are a liability to him and no matter to him if you leave or he may taking you granted that you won't leave this job for sure. And if he is an habitual offender then no choice but to ignore it or leave. In most of such cases these type of relationships never improves, and give you depression. Better to start looking for new job (however hard it may be) and leave quietly.

You have to learn how to relax your mind. Please start the following exercise: Stand in front of the mirror, look at your eyes and say the following three mantras several times: Arjun I love you Arjun I like you Arjun I will take care of you. Repeat this several time daily. This will give you more mental power to face the situation and within one week, you will be least bothered for your boss. Trust me, this works wonders.

So instead of suggesting the person stand up for themselves and their self respect you are suggesting some crappy method of soaking it all in... you alright... or have you soaked in so much that no self respect is left...

You should also put him down in front of others if you are sure that there is no mistake of you.

And if you have been threatened to leave your Job add this in that complaint as well also complain your HR too. If still nothing happen sent a complain to Labor Ministry. In any of the above situation if you are asked to leave Job, its is your discrimination as you have raised a voice against something which is wrong. Our Country has very tough Labor laws which can make the company SMTs think about that managers. DONT STEP BACK IF SOMETHING WRONG HAPPENED TO YOU. you are not a Dog....you are a CITIZEN of this country and a Human Being. Everyone has to understand this and treat you with full respect. You may get the support late but you will get it from our Judiciary. If still you have any questions message me.

Well one thing is certain from your description that your boss is not a good manager and perhaps acquired this status by some inappropriate means. What you need to do is keep a record of all the activities and then take this up with higher management as per the complaint procedure outlined in your employment contract, ensuring that you have copy of everything you do. In the mean time keep looking for another job where reference are treated secondary and your abilities high, since no doubt your boss will not good reference. One thing which you can also do is that you request a meeting with your boss in private and iron out the in no uncertain terms and make clear about your feelings and how his actions hurt you mentally and emotionally. You have to work on it but ultimately you will have to leave this company for peace of your own mind and be look out for another job which definitely is not going to be an easy task.

What is your obligation in working in this company only, cant u find any other job, if any other serious problem, then you need to analyze it, but at the same time, make sure before leaving to get a good certificate, as the next job is dependent on the previous job experience, good conduct etc., it should not happen that neither you are in this job nor elsewhere. At the same time, as per my experience goes by, normally bosses are hard on very few who are really good, but not really working to their potential.

Do you have any grievance redressal cell in your company? If yes, will you be able to approach them? If not, then there will not be any point in taking up the matter with his seniors. Better find out an alternate employment. Till then, manage to continue under this boss.
