I am not someone who would completely depend on debit cards for small payments. I still believe in carrying hard cash. But I see so many friends who are used to swiping their debit cards even for Rs 500. What if the ATM nearby isn’t working? Then you are just stranded and can’t help it. Do you think it’s wise to be addicted to plastic money?
Sham

1. I do not see any connection between swiping debit card and nearby ATM not working. The swiping machines are not connected to the ATM machines but they are connected to the Bank's server. It is always safe to use credit card than debit card. Carrying hard cash has got some element of risk. In debit card, the money gets debited on the spot. In credit card, you get up to 45 days interest free credit card. If lost, you can block.

But in credit card the limit is endless i.e. you can buy any amount of item through credit card but in debit card you have the limit in spending i.e what is in your bank

In credit card also the limit is fixed. Once you reach the limit say; Rs.50000.00, then the card will not work unless you pay to the bank and clear the outstanding.

it's okay to carry debit cards but one should not completely leave the habit of having some hard cash. You never know when the need may arise for money.

scared to carry handy cash in the purse. credit card /purse if lost can be reported,blocked..electricity and telephone bills would never be there on time..now bills are paid by c.c on time minus any fines

We all know the condition in metro cities, God forbidden, what if someone threatens you to swipe your debit card and withdraw cash while you are coming alone from somewhere... Is that safe at that time as well?

Yes I use card and electronic transfer for everything. Phone bills, Grocery Payment,Dinner, purchases everything through debit card. I have Credit Card but avoid using it. Using Credit Card makes a person undisciplined in spending where as in Debit Card you see your bank balance diminishing and know when to become more spendthrift. Also the Debit Card helps in doing a postmortem of the expenses which is not so easy with cash spending.
