Yes rape is a sexual act, yes rape is is an act of violence, yes rape is a physical act of force to subjugate a weaker person. But no where does it say that rape is also an act that causes such deep mental trauma in the victim of rape, that it defines everything she or he does for the rest of their life.
Rape is not a one dimensional crime of having sex with an unwilling person. In many ways it is a way to put someone in their place, to say that they are inferior and therefore deserve to be treated that way.
As a man i have have often wondered what gives a man the right to rape a woman? Is it only because her physical strength is no match for a man's?
Is it centuries of patriarchy that convinces a man it is OK to rape a woman because she tempted him to do so by provocative clothes? Is a woman asking to be raped? Why is a woman told being raped is a shame that she has to carry around like excess baggage for the rest of her life? Why can't we as a society of regressive men understand that it the rapist who needs counseling and not the person who has been raped?
Rape is a crime not against women alone but a crime against humanity. Rape happens when a human being chooses to become an animal!
