Sushant Singh Rajput
An actor who chose to cast his magic on the big screen after a successful stint on the small screen with a TV soap titled ‘Pavitra Rishta’, Sushant Singh Rajput has always given tremendous performances in Bollywood. Always considered as a very underrated actor, all he needed was a kickass storyline with a director who could truly understand his potential, for him to make it big and prove his worth in Bollywood. I can’t think of anyone better than Sushant Singh Rajput to play the role of MS.Dhoni so perfectly. From his batting actions to his voice, Sushant moulded in Dhoni’s character and made it feel as if we were watching Dhoni play himself on the screen. When you do a biopic, it is important that you live up to the expectations of the respective person’s fans/followers and by walking in the shoes of Dhoni like a pro, Sushant has garnered himself a crazy fan following too.
The second half editing
The amateurish editing during the first half of the movie made us cringe. I mean shortening Sushant Singh Rajput’s height and the unnecessary jump shots was a little disturbing to the eyes, but when the second half started and they started showing the matches where Dhoni actually played, they replaced Sushant’s face on Dhoni’s and it looked clean and so amazing. It felt as if we were in fact watching a real life match with Sushant playing on the field. While some VFX shots could have been avoided and instead of shortening Sushant’s height, they could have probably take some young actor to play the teenage Dhoni, but I guess teenage being one of the most crucial stages of Dhoni’s life, VFX was necessary.
Dhoni’s real life portrayal
Cricket lovers have fondness towards Dhoni because of his amazing captaincy and calm attitude while on the field. But little did people know the reason behind his calm and composed attitude and why he has always maintained decorum on the filed. The movie ‘MS Dhoni- The Untold Story’ reveals what aspects of his life made him the man he is. His success, his failure, his love life, everything played a crucial role in making him a successful captain that made Team India win the World Cup after 28 years. And this portrayal of MS Dhoni the real captain cool increased his fan base all the more and for the right reasons.
Amaal Mallik, Rochak Kohli, Sanjoy Chowdhury have done a fantastic job with the music of this movie. Every song captures the emotion that the character is going through. Without unnecessary jazz and raps that usually does wonders at the chartbusters, he stuck to the good old style of just keeping it real with the music that blends beautifully with the plot of the movie. With people as young as them, it is worth a thousand applauds that they did complete justice to the soundtrack of ‘MS Dhoni- The Untold Story’.
Anupam Kher as a doting father who wants his child to have a secure government job is someone who we all would relate to, for a simple fact that every father of a middle class family is like him. Even though he wants to be supportive towards his son’s dreams and aspirations, he can’t help but worry about him having a secured future with income that would always come. A special mention and an ovation to Anupam Kher who made each one of cry in the last scene, when Dhoni hits the winning six. That was one emotion very few actors could pull off, and with that scene he made us realise it wasn’t just about a game for us, it was something beyond words.
