While Deepika was flattered by Ranbir's simplicity, patience and the fact that he is not a complicated person, the thing that got Ranbir attracted towards Deepika was her positive approach in life.
Gradually, these meetings, hanging out, dinners and catching over coffee became frequent. Ranbir and Deepika were friends for six months before they started seeing each other.
Seemingly, Ranbir was quite upset the way news channels made a big deal out of it, and stated that it was hard to deal with it. He even said that being private people, it was hard to see that moment repeatedly being flashed on screen.
The Kapoor family took offence and Ranbir's father Rishi Kapoor immediately counter-attacked Deepika in a city tabloid interview, while mom Neetu maintained a dignified silence.
Also, since both Ranbir and Deepika were starting their acting career at that point, no one actually thought of marriage at a serious note. However, it was surely on the cards at some point of time.
While promoting YJHD, Ranbir got fed up and said it loud and clear that there is more to the movie besides his romance rumours with Deepika and people should concentrate on that.
Surprisingly, it is post their break-up, Ranbir and Deepika have come closer than they were during their relationship and they respect each other a lot more now.
On their first date, Ranbir and Deepika also watched the movie 'Mr Bean's Holiday' at PVR Cinemas in Juhu. This was followed by a long drive and finally Ranbir dropped Deepika home.
