Did you know that Bollywood actress Amrita Singh was initially a belly dancer and it was only later she tried hands at acting and became successful in film industry?
Amrita Singh was undoubtedly the reigning queen of Bollywood until she married Saif Ali Khan in 1991 and decided to be a star wife and a homemaker.
Amrita belongs to a very prominent and influential family and was raised in a protected family environment in Delhi. She attended Modern School New Delhi
Amrita Singh was born into a Sikh-Muslim family. Her mother Rukhsana Sultana was a controversial political activist and father Shavinder Singh was an army officer.
Amrita had all luxuries of life while she was living in Delhi and as soon as Amrita shifted to Mumbai, her mother Rukhsana bought her a row house in suburban Belscott Towers. It is also said that Amrita's mother was influential in launching her daughter's career in Bollywood.
Amrita made her Bollywood debut with the 1983 film 'Betaab' and she was paired opposite Sunny Deol. Needless to mention their sizzling on-screen chemistry became the hottest talk of the town.
Unlike her contemporaries of the era, Amrita Singh was quite bold and seductive on screen. She even had a lip-lock scene and a steamy song sequence with Sunny in 'Betaab'.
Gossipmongers say that it was the on-screen intimacy for their film 'Betaab' that translated into off screen bonding and brought them closer to each other and they dated for quite sometime.
Amrita was quite vocal about her feelings for co-star Sunny and often admitted that she found him quite attractive. On the other hand, Sunny even asked Amrita to be a little secretive about their affair.
But they parted ways because Amrita's mother was against their relationship, as she felt her daughter deserved a better man than just an actor. Sources even reveal that Amrita's mother always wanted her daughter to marry and settle down with a man from a rich and aristocratic family.
Again, if sources are to be believed, it is said that Amrita's mother (after proper investigation) discovered that Sunny Deol was already secretly married to a girl called Pooja in England!
Not just Amrita's mother, even Sunny's mom Prakash Kaur didn't approve of their relationship, because Amrita was quite bold in her on-screen roles.
Quite surprisingly, Amrita Singh was once heard saying, "Sunny wasn't a real relationship. It was more a publicity stunt for Betaab." Well, you can't really know who to believe.
Moving on from Sunny Deol, Amrita Singh went on to dating cricketer Ravi Shastri. During this time, Sunny Deol's closeness to Dimple Kapadia had become the latest buzz.
Amrita Singh had yet another alleged love affair with co-star Vinod Khanna who was 12 year elder than her. Amrita met Vinod on the sets of JP Dutta's Batwara and soon she became obsessed with him.
Interestingly, Amrita was engaged to Ravi Shastri when she met Vinod Khanna and she took it up as a challenge to woo Vinod because Ravi Shastri had laughed out saying, "You can never get Vinod Khanna even if you tried!"
Knowing that Ravi Shastri had been unfaithful to her, Amrita Singh had even better reasons to get Vinod Khanna's attention, while the actor didn't reciprocate very positively.
It was during an outdoor shoot for 'Batwara' that Amrita managed to get alone time with Vinod Khanna and tried her best to woo him with her best ladylike behaviour, though she felt disheartened that the actor was not into her much.
After trying hard when Amrita couldn't woo Vinod Khanna, she gave a second chance to her relationship with Ravi Shastri, though both of them soon realised they lacked compatibility and eventually they broke off.
